MarketingSecrets.com News
=====================================

I'm sorry for the delay on getting another newsletter issue
published! I haven't been home much in the past six weeks.
It's nice to be home again.

I had an amazing time on my recent trip to Japan.
(More on that in a moment -- and some photos to
share with you as well.)

There are a few additions to the MarketingSecrets.com
web site that I want to tell you about...

> Back Issue Newsletter Archive
> Article Library
> Coming Soon: A Blog

After much procrastination, I have finally setup a section
for back issues in case you want to read some of the
past MarketingSecrets.com newsletters.

You can read through some back issues by visiting:
http://www.marketingsecrets.com/archive.html

I have received a TON of requests from people wanting
to republish my articles on their own Web Sites or in
their ezines, autoresponders, products, etc. So I have
setup an "Article Library" with some past articles I
have written and will be adding some others shortly.

If you want to republish any of my articles, please feel
free to do so. The instructions and guidelines are listed
on the Articles page that can be found here:
http://www.marketingsecrets.com/articles.html

AND...

After being inspired by my buddy and blog super-expert,
Jason Cain (goldblogger.com), I am going to setup
a blog for MarketingSecrets.com. I will post to the blog
much more regularly than I publish this newsletter. It
will give me the opportunity to quickly and easily post
some tactics, strategies, and just plain ramblings off
my wacky brain on a regular basis.

I will still publish this newsletter (I enjoy it). But I will
post more often to the blog. As soon as the blog
goes live (hopefully within a few days) I will email you
to let you know where you can check it out.

My Adventures In Japan
=====================================

What can I say... Japan was simply AMAZING.

I loved the people. I loved the food. I loved the culture.

Japan is a beautiful country. It's a lot different than
the USA.

I think the defining moment for me in Japan was seeing
people out in public wearing surgical masks. At first
I thought it was because these people were paranoid
of catching SARS or something.

I was quickly corrected by my friend that lives in Tokyo.

Many japanese people wear surgical masks when
THEY are sick. Yes, that's right. They are willing to
go out in public and look unfashionable and downright
'odd' with a clunky mask over their face out of RESPECT
FOR OTHERS.

Amazing concept isn't it?

It's too bad the rest of the world doesn't treat each
other this way.

The marketing in Japan was nothing short of FUNNY.
Their ads and marketing are really over-the-top and
border on the extreme and exaggerated.

I really liked it. :-)

I really had a great time on my first visit to Japan and
I hope to go back for another visit eventually.

Here are some photos from my trip. In the top photo
you will notice some of my new japanese girlfriends.
I still haven't decided which one I will marry.

(I'll keep you posted.)

Seminar Life
=====================================

I flew from Tokyo to San Francisco to attend
Ken McCarthy's "System" Seminar. What a powerful
event.

I have now attended Ken's last three "System"
seminar events. Once as a speaker (the only
formal presentation I have ever given) and the
others as a student. (Yes, I continue to learn
from others everyday -- and YOU should too.)

Each and every event Ken has put on is nothing
short of AWESOME. It's a very high-level event while
most of the other seminars in the market are more
for newbies and basic-level marketers.

What makes Ken's events really special is the fact
that every presentation is all about nitty gritty tactics
that you can apply to your business as soon as you
get home. Not "theory" or things that "might work"
but stuff that has been proven TO WORK.

You just can't put a pricetag on that.

I also had the pleasure of meeting several marketing
friends for the first time -- like Damon Zahariades of
webbusinesstoday.com and Dr. Mike of jvnetwork.com.

Ken really outdid himself this time. Imagine this...

John Carlton, arguably one of the best copywriters
on planet earth, giving a presentation on a Saturday
night only to be followed up (it was a surprise) by
the legendary GARY HALBERT.

Carlton and Halbert in the same place at the same time.
That honestly might be the last time that EVER happens.
I'm glad I was there to see it.

If you are truly serious about marketing and making the
MAXIMUM amount of income you can from your efforts,
then you MUST study the works of both of these world
class marketers.

Check out John Carlton's Web Site at:
http://www.marketingrebel.com

Check out Gary Halbert's Web Site at:
http://www.thegaryhalbertletter.com

I *promise* you this... if you buy their products and
actually STUDY them and APPLY them, you WILL make
more money.

The only question is... how much more will you make?
I would say DOUBLE as a bare minimum.

* Ken has a very special event coming up in February
for those serious about making money with infoproducts.

Unfortunately, I'm not at liberty to discuss the details
about it right now, but I will announce it to you as soon
as Ken will let me. (He is going to limit the number
of attendees since it is a very high demand training.)

I was home for only a few days then I headed south
to the Florida Keys to Bob Silber's seminar.

My good friend, Jason Potash (picktheirbrains.com),
flew to Orlando from his frozen-city of Toronto and we
drove down to the Keys in my Porsche. I had fun
scaring the daylights out of Jason and using all 500
horsepower that my car has to offer. :-)

We had a great time driving the 6 hours down to the
Keys. It was like an extended mastermind session.

Bob's seminar was great. It was held again this year
at Hawk's Cay, which is a resort on a small island
in the Keys.

Bob had quite a lineup of speakers (over 20!) and
even had Ted Nicholas as a special guest. Ted
is another one of those marketing legends that has
really paved the way for many of us today.

The networking at Bob's event (and Ken's) is reason
enough for attending an Internet Marketing seminar.
If you've never been to one, I strongly urge you attend
at least one in 2004. I honestly think it will change
your life. You will meet people that you can do
business with and make friendships that may last
a lifetime. They really are a lot of fun.

One night during Bob's event, Alex Mandossian
(who spoke at the seminar) threw a little party
in the villa he was staying in. It was a great little
social event and a great chance to network with
a lot of different folks.

For me, though, the best part of Alex's party was
after the party was pretty much over. Nearly
everyone had gone back to their rooms to call it
a night and sleep.

There were only four people left at Alex's little
party at about 2AM... Alex, Yanik Silver, Rich Schefren,
and me.

You've probably heard of Yanik before (if not,
run over to surefiremarketing.com) but you might not
know of Rich Schefren. Rich is a very talented
marketer that's run businesses in the offline world
for years. He's had more than one incredibly
successful business -- we're talking millions of
dollars in sales.

Rich has worked with master marketer, Jay Abraham
and is actually doing a teleseminar event with Jay and
Stephen Pierce very soon. I'll email you shortly with
more details about this live event. You'll definitely
want to check it out -- I'll be tuning in.

By the way, speaking of Stephen Pierce, who happens
to be one of my close friends and one of the best
marketers I've ever met, you should check out his
latest trading product if you do anything with trading
stocks and investing. I own a copy of the product
and it's simple to understand but extremely VALUABLE.

Check out the "Three Bears Trading Plan" at:
http://www.three-bears.com

(And, no, that is not an affiliate link.)

Back to the late-night after Alex's party...

So it's like 2AM and Alex, Yanik, Rich, and myself
are just shooting the breeze a bit. We ended up getting
into some really deep discussions about life, business,
and goals. It was an amazing conversation. I wish
I had taped it. It was literally worth a million dollars+.

In that conversation (which ended around 5AM) I ended
up sharing with them something that I attribute almost
all of my success to. I felt inspired to write an article
about it, and you'll read it in a moment. (The "Mount Profit.."
article.)

So I had a really great time attending those seminars
in the past month. The networking alone was well worth
attending. It's mindboggling to think about how many
millions of dollars in JV deals and partnerships are
created from COMPLETE STRANGERS that meet
at seminars. I bet the number is astronomical. Every
event I attend I see people meeting for the first time
then ending up doing business together. I think it's
awesome!

Well, guess what?

Would you believe me if I told you that possibly
the greatest networking event in the HISTORY of
Internet Marketing is about to take place?

I'm being dead serious here. Such an event is about
to happen. One that may never be topped for the
networking opportunities alone.

Check this out...

Yanik Silver is turning 30 and he is celebrating his
birthday by throwing a "Birthday Bash" event in
Orlando, Florida in mid-January. (Barely a month
from now.) This event will be just like a normal
Internet Marketing seminar -- it will have tons
of great speakers, great content and strategies,
and tremendous networking opportunities.

But there are some major differences with this event...

Firstly, Yanik has pulled in some heavy hitters to
speak at this thing. He's pulled Corey Rudl basically
out of speaker-retirement. Corey stopped speaking
at seminars ages ago. So this might be the last
time to meet Corey in person and hear him speak.

Yanik also has some other great speakers lined
up for this thing, including Marlon Sanders, Jim Edwards,
Tom Antion, Bill Glazer, and many others.

But even as great as that speaker lineup is there's
something else amazing about this event that
Yanik is putting together...

IT'S FREE.

Well, it's not totally free, but almost. It requires a
$50 donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. But
that's all it costs to attend this amazing event!

So because it's nearly free to attend, and because
of the powerful speaker lineup he has put together,
something is about to happen...

THE BIGGEST INTERNET MARKETING SEMINAR EVER.

That's right. This may very well turn out to be the largest
Internet Marketing seminar in history. Yanik is expecting
over *400* attendees. That's insane!

Nearly everyone I know that's actively marketing online
is going to be there. I continue to get emails almost
daily asking me, "Hey, are you going to Yanik's party?
I'm going!"

If you've ever wanted to find some new JV partners or
grow your business by networking with other Internet
entrepreneurs, there may never be a better event to
do so.

I wouldn't miss it. Not only is it to raise money for
a good cause, but it will also be a fantastic event. It
will quite honestly be the only time that all of these
people are in the same place at one time.

I look forward to meeting you in person if you decide
to go.

Article: "Climbing Mount Profit (Starting From The Top)"
=====================================

I have been an entrepreneur for most of my life. I started
my journey as an entrepreneur at age 11. Ironically,
it was running a BBS (bulletin board system) with a computer,
a 300 baud modem, and a phone line in 1981.

(BBSs essentially became the Internet that we know today.)

It would take me nearly 15 long years of being an entrepreneur
before I would really make much money. And by that I mean
more than $6,500 in a single YEAR which didn't happen
until almost 15 years later.

I have made every mistake in the book and invented several
new ones when it comes to being an entrepreneur.

I was in nearly $100,000 of debt by age 22 -- mainly from trying
every business possible.

I practically ruined my health by age 25 and it almost killed me.

(I ended up in the emergency room with a body that was so
overworked and stressed that it was trying to shutdown.)

BUT... I eventually turned things around. Through hard work,
faith, and perseverance. But I won't kid you, it wasn't easy.

I did finally start to make a good income. I was finally able
to get out of that mountain of debt. And then the best thing of all
happened -- I was able to learn how to GROW my business.

I was eventually able to make more money in a single month
than the entire amount of debt that I had racked up by age 22.

But I was only able to start having success when I learned
to grasp a powerful concept that I am about to teach you.
I honestly believe that this one concept can change your life,
because it changed mine.

No matter what stage you are at with your business, whether
you are just getting started and dream of leaving your real job,
or whether you are already making good money online, I have
an absolutely critical question to ask you...

WHAT THE HECK DO YOU WANT?

Reread that question. Then reread it again. Take your time.

I ask you, "What the heck do you want?"

Since we're talking primarily about business, I am relating this
question to HOW MUCH MONEY DO YOU WANT?

Seriously, how much?

When people used to ask me this question, I used to have
a simple answer... "Millions!"

And even, though, that honestly WAS what I wanted, that wasn't
the "right" answer.

The right answer is something SPECIFIC. It doesn't matter how
big the amount is, it matters how specific the figure is. In other
words, $5,000,000 if that's what I really wanted.

But that first "big" figure should be more of your "ultimate dream"
and not what you will settle for to be happy and live the lifestyle
you'd be perfectly happy with. Take it from me, when I ended up
making a lot of money, I quickly realized I didn't need anywhere
close to a large amount to basically do and buy anything I wanted.

So you need to also answer this question...

HOW MUCH WILL MAKE YOU HAPPY?

And don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to tell you to abandon your
dreams of some huge amount of money. You can still grow your
business and work towards that, and it certainly can still happen.
That's not what this is about. This is about something much more
powerful.

So you need to decide on a figure that will make you happy. Such
as an annual income that will allow you to live the life you want
without having a real job if you still have a job. Or that next level
of lifestyle if you already work for yourself.

Whatever it is you really want, you need to be SPECIFIC about
that dollar amount. For me, when I was in debt up to my nostrils,
I eventually set that want at $40,000/year for income. I figured
if I could just earn $40,000/year I could live a modest life, not be
overly depressed about money, and "eventually" pay off my debt.

Setting that goal for me changed my life. Within less than 90 days
of setting that realistic and achievable goal, I accomplished it.

Now how on earth did that happen when I spent YEARS trying to
make money and was going literally nowhere?

It's simple.

I learned to climb what I call "Mount Profit" starting from the top.

I wrote down $40,000. I then worked the numbers BACKWARDS
to figure out how much I would have to earn per month and then
per day in order to achieve that figure. Then I figured out how
much my product would have to cost and how many people I
would have to sell it to. (Or whatever my business model was.)

It was EASY. It was very simple MATH. There was no more guesswork.
There were no more mysteries. I knew exactly what I had to do to
get what I WANTED. So I got to work and got it. And it happened
very quickly because I had FOCUS on what I had to do.

I believe the #1 problem that entrepreneurs have is that they have
no FOCUS on what they really WANT. They simply think, "I want
to make a lot of money."

Well, I've got news for you, if you think that way, you're DOOMED
and you might not even realize it yet. NO ONE just goes out and
makes some mysterious amount of money from their efforts.

And no one makes a million without making one dollar first. Write
that down.

In order to accomplish whatever amount it is that you want, you must
have a specific dollar figure in mind. You must then work the "math"
and process backwards to create a plan to accomplish that goal.

You must work that process back to the smallest incremental action
step of your path to achieve what you want.

Have you ever heard...

"The journey of a thousand miles must begin with a
single step."

Well, business is the same way. The journey to a million dollars,
or even $100,000/year, must begin with a single dollar.

In order to accomplish that single dollar, you must put a 'system'
in place to earn that dollar. But if I told you all you had to do is
earn one dollar to be incredibly rich, you'd quickly and easily figure
out how to do it.

Do you realize that if you can figure out how to make $1 of profit
that you are 90% of the way to making $100,000/year and beyond?
All you have to do is REPEAT the process of what it took to make
that $1 of profit. It's called scalability.

Did you know that Mount Everest is exactly 29,035 feet high?

Well, you might not know that, but I can guarantee you that anyone
that attempts to climb Mount Everest knows that. And they know
that before they take one tiny step up the mountain.

That 29,035 feet must be the dollar amount that you want to earn.
You must have a very SPECIFIC amount in mind for the next financial
goal you wish to accomplish. And set that goal as a realistic figure
so it is easily reached. You can always revise your goals as you go.
That's why I stated earlier that the ultimate lifestyle you want is a lot
cheaper than you realize.

So stop falling into the trap that you are just "working as hard as you
can" and however much money you make will be the result.

I am trying to tell you... THAT'S THE KISS OF DEATH.

That's the best way to keep from making money, if any.

You need to learn to THINK of everything you want backwards.
Reverse engineer what you want. Visualize what you want and
"see" what the path is to get back to where you are now.

Then start walking down the path towards what you want. And do it
one small step at a time. Because the only way to get from here
to there is many small steps. There is no other way, so why waste
your time doing anything else.

With Internet Marketing, it at all starts with one Web Site visitor.
Then one opt-in subscriber. Then finally one order. Not 100 orders,
not 10,000 subscribers, not 1,000,000 visitors. ONE of each.

So stop making all of this HARDER than it really is. Start getting
ONE MORE of each of everything you want and then SCALE that
to achieve your SPECIFIC goals.

You CAN climb your "Mount Profit" no matter how high it is for
you. But remember to plan your climb by knowing EXACTLY how
high that mountain is before you start your climb. You stand a much
better chance of reaching the top if you aren't just climbing in the dark.
